Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Please include a contact person’s name and telephone number and send at least two weeks prior to the event. The Times will do its best to run the announcement at least once prior to the event. Due to the volume of goings on listings received by the paper, listings are alternated once they run and the same listings are not printed every day.

Traveling Chef

On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the Traveling Chef will bring a Grilled Panini Bar to the Rose Baker Senior Center with all the makings for a great sandwich. Reservations are required by Monday, Dec. 17.

Family Night

The first Family and Friends Night is Dec. 20, with stores open late for late night holiday shopping. Santa will draw the winning ticket for the $1,500 Super Shopping Spree at 9 p.m. Restaurants will offer free dessert or appetizers. Carolers will stroll Main Street. A festive evening for friends and family.

Free Christmas meals

The Capt. Lester S. Wass American Legion, Post 3, will serve and deliver free Christmas meals on Christmas Day to the elderly and housebound. The hall will also be open from 10:30 a.m. to noon for anyone who would like a Christmas meal. To order a meal, call 978-283-9710 and leave your name, address, telephone number and number of meals. Early reservations recommended. Donations of turkeys, pies, other foods and monetary gifts are welcome. Other donations can be mailed to the legion: P.O. Box 122, Gloucester, MA 01931-0122. Volunteers also needed for cooking, serving and delivering meals; call 978-283-9710 and leave a message.

Ask A Nurse

Starting Jan. 14, through May 6, graduate student at Salem State University working on a Practicum towards a Master’s Degree in Nursing will have office time at the Rose Baker Senior Center on Tuesdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Laura Gillette, RN, BSN, will be available for individual sessions to monitor blood pressure, medications, nutritional habits, and health issues. Laura will do home safety visits as well. Please stop by the reception area at the senior center for a visit with the Nurse.
