Rockport Goings On

FRA meeting

The Friends of Rockport Athletics will meet Monday, Jan. 7, 6:30 p.m., in the Rockport High School library. All are welcome. Call 978-270-7463.

Preschool story hours

The Rockport Public Library will offer story times for children ages 3-5 on Tuesdays, 10 to 10:45 a.m., in the Brenner Friends Room, Jan. 8-April 30. Wendy Pierson will be the storyteller. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. for children and their parents. The program includes storytelling and a short film. Call 978-546-6934.

Laughing yoga

Join us Monday, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. for free Laughing Yoga at the Rockport Senior Center. Mats and floor exercise not required; just the physical act of laughing coupled with breathing exercises help to reduce stress and depression.

Email classes

Thursday Beginner Computer Classes start at the Rockport Senior Center on Jan. 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. We will explore how to use the internet and email and how to use them safely. 4 Classes are $40.

Microsoft Word

This class for seniors explores paragraphs, margins, formatting, header and footers, saving & organizing files and inserting pictures and objects; meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Feb. 4, from 10:30 to 12 noon at the Rockport Senior Center; 6 classes/$60.00

Digital intro

Basics of taking photos and downloading them to the computer, editing photos, attaching them to email. Specially tailored for beginner seniors, at the Rockport Senior Center, Mondays & Wednesdays, from Jan. 14 to Feb 4: 6 classes/$60.00

Papier Mache

Artist/sculptor Linda York-Robbins leads senior course in Papier Mache Caricaturing and Sculpting. Students create a life size papier mache head of a famous or infamous person in history. This course offers wonderful experience in exploring many different mediums and techniques in art. No prior knowledge required. 11 classes/$100; Thursdays starting Jan. 17- March 28th. 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Rockport Senior Center. For more information, call 978-546-2573.


Artist Carla Mattioli leads this class using black & white conte crayon, charcoal, color pastels and watercolor paints to explore the world of shadows, light, darkness & color. Classes are Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m., starting Jan. 15 — Feb 19, at the Rockport Senior Center. 6 Classes/$30.
