Gloucester Goings On

Events listed here are open to the public and sponsored by nonprofit groups unless otherwise noted. Legion Valentine’s Day party

The Capt. Lester S. Wass American Legion, Post 3, will host a Valentine’s Day party Saturday, Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m., in the lounge. Members and guests are invited. Features food, entertainment, raffles and door prizes, including small stuffed animals and a two-night stay in a Whirlpool suite in Ogunquit, Maine. Must be present to win the door prizes.

Annual MLK march

The 25th annual Martin Luther King Jr. March for Peace will take place Monday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. The march will begin at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, 4 Cleaves St., Rockport. Interested participants are invited to gather at the church at 9:30 a.m. to make signs. A short program, led by Rev. Susan Moran, follows the march.

Books sought

Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington St., is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, records and audio books. The church has a drop-off donation container to collect these items. The church will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in the donation container. The program is an ongoing fundraiser and donations can be made by the public at any time. All funds raised benefit the general funding of the church. Visit www.GotBooks.com.
