Rockport Goings On

“Chowda” supper

The Sandy Bay Historical Society will hold its annual “Chowda” supper Friday, Sept. 27, 6 p.m., at Spiran Hall, followed by the annual meeting and an “Old Song Sing Along.” Cost is $8 per person. Democratic Committee

The Rockport Democratic Town Committee will meet Saturday, Sept. 21, 10:30 a.m., in the Brenner Room, Rockport Public Library. Member Tom Delaney will report on his experience at the Statewide Gun Control Hearings. Upcoming elections and possible bylaw changes will also be discussed. PaintedPalette Auction

The Painted Palette Auction to benefit the Rockport Art Association will take place Friday, Sept. 20, at 12 Main St. A reception will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the auction at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $20. Call 978-546-6604, email or visit

Children’s story hours

The Rockport Public Library offers preschool story hours from now until Nov. 26. The weekly program, for children ages 3-5, meets Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. for children and parents. The 45-minute program includes storytelling and either a movie or a music and movement time. Families may check out books to read at home after the story time.

Meet the author

The next Meet the Author event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m., at the Rockport Public Library. Gloucester resident George Rosen will discuss his book, “The Immanence of God in the Tropics,” which was selected as a Publisher’s Weekly pick of the week and Top 10 travel book for 2012. Series is sponsored by the library, in conjunction with Toad Hall Bookstore and the Friends of the Rockport Library.

Pigeon Cove Circle

Pigeon Cove Circle will meet Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6 Breakwater Ave. Guest speaker Sefatia Romeo, community health liaison at Addison Gilbert Hospital, will discuss health insurance options, open enrollment and confusion regarding the three-day Medicare hospital observation issues. Event begins at 6 p.m., followed by a potluck buffet dinner and speaker at 7 p.m. Bring an item for the buffet. Call 978-546-1195.
