Marshfield sued over sinking of fishing boat

QUINCY, Mass. (AP) — A commercial fisherman has filed a federal lawsuit against the town of Marshfield over the sinking of his 35-foot boat.

The Patriot Ledger reports (http://bit.ly/LxGuSU ) that Andrew Mannix of Marshfield claims $111,000 in damages. He says the town's harbormaster redirected him in August 2010 to a mooring after a dredging project in the harbor was completed.

On Sept. 11, 2010, his boat sank because there wasn't enough water to keep the boat afloat. The lawsuit says the sinking was reported to the harbormaster's office at 8 p.m. that day, but Mannix was not notified until 10 p.m.

He also alleges in his lawsuit filed in Boston that he was prohibited from salvaging the electronics from the boat's wheelhouse that night.

Marshfield Town Administrator Rocco Longo declined to comment because the lawsuit is pending.
