Quincy man drowns after checking lobster traps

QUINCY, Mass. (AP) — A Quincy man has died after falling in the water after he and a friend had checked lobster traps.

Police say 72-year-old Pat Walsh fell into the water while getting into a dinghy at about 3 p.m. Thursday off the city's Squantum neighborhood.

The other man, 45-year-old Tim Sheehan, jumped in for a rescue attempt.

Rescuers performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on Walsh and both men were taken to Quincy Medical Center.

Walsh was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Sheehan was treated for shock and hypothermia and is reported in good condition.

A relative tells The Patriot Ledger (http://bit.ly/SurMlh ) that Walsh is a retired carpenter.
