Fiesta spurs rash of arrests

Gloucester police reported several arrests and incidents yesterday related to St. Peters' Fiesta, where the carnival and entertainment programs opened Wednesday night prior to last night's official opening ceremonies.

Joseph L. Thomas, 22, of 50 Broadway, Beverly, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Thursday on charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct. Police said he was fighting in the area of St. Peter's Fiesta.

Police were dispatched to Tally's Corner, adjacent to St. Peter's Fiesta, at 12:35 a.m. yesterday for reports of a fight. When officers arrived, they found an intoxicated Gloucester woman being restrained from fighting somebody. The woman told police that a Gloucester man hit her, but several witnesses told police the woman was not hit.

Evan T. Kinlock, 20, of 27 Central St., Byfield, was arrested 11:50 p.m. Thursday on charges of disorderly conduct. Kinlock was arrested for refusing to leave St. Peter's Fiesta after causing a disturbance.

Paul A. Peterson, 18, of 7 Veterans Way, Gloucester, was arrested at 12: 30 a.m. yesterday on charges of disorderly conduct. Peterson was arrested for coming back to the Fiesta area after police told him to leave when they observed him starting a fight.

Jamie D. Clancy, 32, of 17 Sadler St., was arrested at 1:05 a.m. yesterday on an outstanding warrant. Clancy was arrested after police observed him leaving the Dog Bar on the Rogers Street side.

Police were also called to the Papa Gino's parking lot at 12:30 a.m. yesterday for reports of a fight. The involved parties left the area prior to police arrival.

Other arrests

Kevin Nolan, 18, of 16 Washington Square, Gloucester, was arrested Thursday night on charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol after police observed him walking down Grove Street with a bottle of vodka.

Christopher M. Cifuni, 32, of 39 Haskell St., was arrested late Thursday night on drunken driving and driving to endanger charges. Cifuni was arrested at 10:45 p.m. Thursday after being pulled over on Bass Avenue. No further information was available.

Incidents

A Harvard Street resident reported to police that somebody broke into the house Thursday and stole a piggy bank.

A Veterans Way woman reported to police at 12:15 a.m. yesterday that a group of young people had damaged the antenna on her mother's car. Police searched the area and did not find the perpetrators.

A Rockport woman was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital by rescue squad from the Walgreen's parking lot at 1:15 a.m. after falling and injuring her ankle.

A Poplar Street woman was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital by rescue squad at 2:00 a.m. yesterday.

Police dispersed a verbal argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend on Bass Avenue at 2:55 a.m. yesterday. Police gave the girlfriend a ride to a friend's house.

Police were called to Parker Street at 4:15 a.m. yesterday for reports of kids allegedly attempting to steal a boat. Police searched the area and did not find the kids.
