Breaking: Men aboard Terra Nova identified; one dead

ROCKPORT — One Maine man died and another was rescued Friday when a boat based out of Provincetown sank on its way to Maine.

Jason Randall of Rockland, Maine, was rescued by Rockport Harbormasters Scott Story and Rosemary Lesch when the fishing vessel Terra Nova sank about three miles off the coast of Rockport around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Another man, David Oakes of South Thomaston died, according to a family member.

Harbormasters from Rockport and Gloucester responded Friday, along with state police, the Coast Guard and nearby good Samaritan vessels.

The boat was docked at Rose's Marine in Gloucester as Oakes and Randall were hired to take the boat to Maine, according to marine owner Frank Rose and an Oakes family member .

Randall was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester , where he was treated Friday, He has since been released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

While a Coast Guard press release did not contain any names, a second person, believed to be Oakes, was airlifted out of the water Friday by a Coast Guard helicopter and brought to Massachusetts General Hospital.

A MGH spokeswoman declined to comment when Oakes was hospitalized, if at all.
