Gloucester Daily Times
---- — To the editor:
There is an unexplainable need for people to be “gullible.”
But the Gloucester Daily Times blew its own cover with the lines headlining Friday’s editorial: “Courageous council vote sets stage for city’s future.”
Regrettably, the council vote is the future not of a city, but the intended economic displacement of average income workers. The council’s vote is a promise to create positions of servitude to accommodate “corporate wealth.” The new high-income residents marvel that this newspaper has apparently convinced the people of Gloucester that “gentrification” is integral to the new economy.
Theodore Roosevelt warned: “Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interest skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.
“Captain Courageous!” . . . “Courageous council?” Has this newspaper no sense of shame?
