Letter: Town's rock warden a post worth keeping

To the editor:

I was reading the town warrant and budget and started thinking about days gone by, particularly something my father used to speak of when I was growing up here in Rockport.

He used to comment on how Rockport was such a beautiful community, so much like towns in Sweden — and he said that one of the things he was thankful for was how Rockport had always been able to keep control of the rocks along our beautiful portion of the coast by the efficiency of our rock warden.

When I noticed that the rock warden had not been funded this year, I was wondering if it had been folded into another part of the towns budget or transferred into the DPW’s budget. The rock warden’s budget had been, I think, level funded in the past. And if so, I feel that it should be raised to meet with inflation.

I would hate to see a large number of our rocks go to the inner city or country gardens. They should stay in Rockport and help keep us the beautiful town we are. By giving the rock warden his due raise I’m sure this can be accomplished.
