Letter: Clancy's commitment essential for schools

To the editor:

This November, Gloucester has an abundance of candidates to choose from to build the next slate of School Committee members.

Kathy Clancy is one of these, currently a two-term committee member and a wonderful example to anyone looking to serve Gloucester’s school children.

In chairing the Committee on Building and Finance, she has had great success in building consensus among many parties to achieve common-sense results for all of the city’s schools.

As the committee’s legislative liaison, Kathy has the ear of Massachusetts state legislators and senators on all issues related to improving educational opportunities for Gloucester students. This enabled her to successfully lobby for restoration of $1 million for innovation schools, like O’Maley Middle School, in the 2014 Massachusetts state budget.

But perhaps what speaks the loudest about Kathy’s commitment to Gloucester public schools is that she and her husband send their young son to our schools.

Re-electing her to the School Committee brings great judgment, an extraordinary fiscal planning professional, and a caring, dedicated mother to work for Gloucester schools.
