To the editor:
More federal government shutdowns may be in our future — and it may be a good thing.
Since 1976 there have been 18 federal government shutdowns. Some of the longer shutdowns were for 10, 12, 17, 11 and 21 days.
Back in 1977, the government shut down three separate times for 12, 8 and 8 days for a total of 28 days.
This year’s shutdown lasted just 16 days. The United States did not blow up or fall apart as a result of any of these shutdowns.
The poor “unnecessary federal employees,” that were furloughed, will likely still get their pay — just like they did the last time. The “unnecessary federal employees” simply got a paid vacation on us.
However, there was one big difference. The Obama administration, including Obama, did everything possible to punish the American people. They went out of their way to hurt as many people as possible.
They spent more money preventing our World War II veterans trying to visit their memorial than it would cost to leave it open. They closed the Lincoln Memorial, along with other open memorials at added expense.
They erected barricades, closed parks and used armed guards to detain and turn away park visitors, etc., etc. They stopped our citizens including children from visiting the White House but they pulled that stunt before during the sequester process.
There are numerous other similar incidents. Obama even denied our World War II veterans’ access to the National Mall but actually provided permits for an Illegal Alien Rally at that very same mall.
It is the responsibility of our government to protect its citizens. They do not have a right to bully or torment us. This is not acceptable.
This is just another example of Big Government running amok. Do you really want this bully in charge of your health? Do you really want this bullying big government charging you whatever they want for your medical care?
It’s taken three years and over $600 million for this administration to set up an Obamacare website that is a complete failure. If Obamacare is allowed to continue, it will even do greater damage to the health and well being of you, our children and me.
As I indicated in an earlier letter, defunding Obamacare is the main way to curtail Big Government’s growth and its intensifying bullying.
Obamacare was unpopular when it was voted in by our then dictatorial congress and current president and is still unpopular today. I am for any congressman or senator willing to stop this over-reaching monstrosity.
