Tierney has always served constituents

To the editor:

I am supporting John Tierney for Congress.

Since the start of this election, John has been maligned in regards to his family, so much so that every day we see negative advertisements questioning his knowledge and integrity.

I was a selectman in Essex for 12 years and, for the first three years, John represented us as our town counsel. He did a great job for us.

When he decided to run for Congress, he came to our board and let us know that he had decided to resign his appointment since he felt the time commitment of the campaign would impact his ability to serve the town. It was sad to see him go, but his actions demonstrated his commitment to his responsibilities and his commitment to doing things right.

No one can choose their in-laws. And John is right in that it’s about our families and not his.

We continue to hear that you need to vote Republican if you want this to happen and vote Democrat if you want that to happen. The issues in this election process seem to be only national in scope — and with that focus, we forget what our congressman is for: to represent the 6th congressional district in Washington.

Whether it’s been wastewater or issues with the fishing industry, or simple constituent issues, John has always been there, helping bring solutions and solving problems. In Essex, the coalition of government leaders from both sides of the aisle were key in allowing us to solve our pollution problem. Without John’s help, it wouldn’t have gotten done.

John Tierney has always been there for the 6th District, he knows his constituents and works hard for us.

He deserves your vote. Let’s send him back for another term.
