Letter: Nation makes gains under Obama

To the editor:

In the latest anti-Obama letter from Wayne Matthews (“The president doesn’t know best,” the Times, Wednesday, Feb. 13) and standard of living,” Feb. 12), the writer uses several “tells” that he is not unbiased, including “radical leftist,” “Barack Hussein Obama,” “disdain for the Constitution” and “fellow travelers.”

Clearly, this gentleman really hates the president.

He has forgotten the terrible mess in which George W. Bush left this country. He has forgotten the tax cuts for the wealthiest citizens who never needed it. He has forgotten the war in Iraq, which was based on lies about weapons of mass destruction. He has forgotten the loss of jobs which resulted from Bush’s ineptness.

This terrible mess that President Obama inherited has been gradually overturned. Job losses are way down, and jobs are being created. The auto industry, which was close to the dustbin, has rebounded after the president’s bailout. (Remember, Romney said, “Let the auto industry go bankrupt.”)

The Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare,” has been enacted into law without a single Republican vote. Now pre-existing conditions cannot be used to deny health care, now families can have their children covered at ages up to 25 — and now this civilized country has universal health care for all of its citizens.

Mr. Matthews, the economy is fast recovering due to the hard work of our president.
