Letter: What's wrong with airport picture?

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

Last weekend, no one could read the paper or turn on the television without hearing about all the “problems” the sequestration would cause. We may come to realize after these cuts that some expenditures are not needed.

A Times story (Saturday, March 4), for example, noted the cuts at Beverly Airport. Yet, part of the story mentioned that Beverly Airport will stay open but will operate without controllers, something it has done in the past.

The airport currently has 59,000 flights per year with six controllers. In the same story, it mentioned that, in the past, the airport had 200,000 flights with no controllers. What is wrong with this picture?
