Letter: Veterans deserve our funding priority

To the editor:

I was watching my favorite morning TV show, “Washington Journal,” when a man came on and stated that our government spends $100 billion a month on various reconstruction programs in Afghanistan.

He stated that many of these programs were wasteful, not wanted by the Afghan people, inefficient, and full of fraud and corruption. We spend a fortune on trying to train Afghan forces to protect their own people and they are deserting in record numbers.

It made me angry to think of all our soldiers over there being killed, coming home with their arms and legs gone, blinded, post traumatic stress disorder they will struggle with for the rest of their lives and the politicians in Washington are talking about cutting funds to these veterans.

There are many thousands of homeless veterans. The wait time to get needed treatments for other veterans can be months.

Cutting funds to our veterans while wasting billions of dollars in Afghanistan is outrageous.
