Letter: 'Good, bad and ugly' words of voting wisdom

To the editor:

Stuart Diamond’s letter, Friday, Sept. 28, brought us “some words to consider as the national election approaches.’”

Here are some others:

Thomas Jefferson having written some 22,000 letters in his lifetime, with a series of letters on Christianity — having thought of himself as a disciple of Jesus: “Belief being, the assent of the mind to an intelligible proposition.”

“Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread.” (Thomas Jefferson, 1821).

Consider then that the source of his letter in the New Testament; and his further comment,

“Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.” Abraham Lincoln (March 27, 1860).

“Say not you, there are four months and then comes the harvest, behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes and look upon the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

“And he that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal; that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.

“And herein is that saying true; one sows, and another reaps. I sent you to reap that wherein you bestowed no labor, other men labored and you entered into their labors” (John 4:35-37).

Today we have Mitt Romney sowing his seed; and our Republican brethren reaping for themselves another “ugly” harvest?

“The good, the bad and the ugly” — Clint Eastwood.
