To the editor:
It is time to play “let’s pretend” again.
Four years ago Americans went to the polls and elected Mr. Hope and Change, pretending he could remedy the nation’s ills.
That hope turned out to be poorly invested in an inexperienced candidate who should never have taken up residence in the White House.
In November, we will head to the polls again, either to re-elect a poor president or elect a chameleon named Mitt, who is a member of what I view as a religious cult called Mormonism.
Can someone in personal spiritual darkness bring light to a nation? Can a bad tree bear good fruit?
In the Bible, in the Jewish prophet Hosea, we read: “Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel, for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land; there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it languish.”
Until Americans stop pretending God is going to bless our land while we saturate it with immorality no progress will be made even if we elect as President a person who is a composite of the integrity of Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and St. Francis of Assisi.
Without repentance and a national moral reformation all hope for improvement will prove to be in vain.
