Letter: Tierney has always put Gloucester first

To the editor:

I have been a Republican all my life and am proud to support Congressman John Tierney in this campaign because I vote the person, not the party.

John has always defended our fishing community, and he fought for the Veterans Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Gloucester.

We live in one of the few places in the country where no veteran like me has to drive more than fifteen miles to receive the care they deserve. That is a direct result of John Tierney’s efforts to open and maintain the outpatient clinic in Gloucester, Lynn, Haverhill, and the VA Medical Center in Bedford.

John was one of the first to take the lead on fighting against harmful government regulation of our fishing industry years ago. He’s continued to fight and has frequently crossed party lines to protect our fishing families.

I vote for the person, not the party. John has a record to be proud of, and whether you’re a Republican like me, an Independent or a Democrat, I urge you to ignore the political smears from his opponent, and cast your ballot for John Tierney — a man who has always put Gloucester and his 6th District constituents first.

JOHN A. “GUS” FOOTE

Gloucester

Former city councilor
