To the editor:
I read and enjoy your paper and recently read a letter to the editor by Michael Cook regarding gay marriage which made some good points, I thought.
I have no stake in this matter and am basically a “traditionalist,” but I find this subject interesting on a legal and constitutional level, and I am not an expert on this issue by any means. It will be interesting to see if, how, when U.S. Supreme Court weighs in on and rules on this. The point of this letter is to make you aware of a recent statement made on the air by Rush Limbaugh on 68 AM WRKO Radio at approximately 12:25 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.
Everyone knows Rush Limbaugh can be an extreme blowhard at times, and his recent statements relating to gay marriage were somewhat shocking, outrageous and likely offensive to many. He basically said, and went on for over half an hour saying, there is an effort in America to normalize pedophilia, and the same thing is happening with gay marriage. I’m paraphrasing, but this is very close to the actual words used. Rush was saying that the same thinking or rationale for justifying gay marriage is being used to justify, accept, rationalize pedophilia — meaning that, apparently, pedophilia doesn’t harm anyone and it’s just an expression of love in a more open and liberal society.
When Rush actually equates homosexuality with pedophilia, he is, of course, fear-mongering. But it’s unnecessary and insulting to people in my opinion.
A great source of sustainable energy would be windpower generated from the massive amounts of hot air Rush Limbaugh blows out on a regular basis — likely more than is currently being generated from Gloucester’s new wind turbines.
