Letter: Saluting two Rockport Samaritans

To the editor:

There are two nice people in my town of Rockport.

I know there are many, many more, but I am grateful for these two in particular. I don’t know who they are. Maybe they know me. I’ll never know. I only know what they did for me.

The first person found my wallet on the ground near my car on the street where I live.

It was raining. The wallet was soaking wet and looked like it had been run over a few times.

I had left the back window of my car open and had gone out to close it and there on the back seat was my wallet. Nothing was taken. This happened a while ago and I’m finally getting around to thanking you for being who you are and doing what you did for me.

The second nice person found my credit card at the ATM at the main office of the Rockport National Bank. Right where I left it. You took it into the bank and left it with a nice customer service person who called me at home. Thank you, whoever you are. I am very grateful for your kind act.

Think of what the consequences of my negligence could have been! Here were two people going about their business and simply did the right thing.

I’m very fortunate that my valuables were found by these two thoughtful, considerate, nice people. Is their any chance that I might do the same for them and they will never know?

Maybe — as long as I follow their example.
