Letter: Gran Prix gains not worth the assault on park

To the editor:

Stage Fort is a beautiful park that has many kinds of spaces for enjoyable activities for people of all ages.

It is accessible, with a varied and interesting terrain — it is a jewel, and we are lucky to have such a park in our city.

The Gran Prix cyclocross race is not appropriate for this park. Any activity that deliberately wrecks any part of our park, regardless of guaranteed repair, should not be allowed.

The money that this race brings in is not worth the assault on one of our community’s treasures.

Permitting this annual destruction (which is what the race ultimately amounts to) does not speak well for the city of Gloucester.
