Letter: House plan delays not tied to board

To the editor:

It is with my great surprise that the Times editorialized about Rockport’s Site Plan Review process (“Rockport house plans must go forward after board’s delays,”) Wednesday, Aug. 7) with so little apparent fact-finding about the process.

The Planning Board did not delay rendering a decision on the Roma property. If applicants present the required documents in the timeframe requested at the beginning of the review, things go rather smoothly. Issues arise, however, when agreed-upon changes are made and required followup documentation lags.

A reading of our determination shows that we do have a zoning issue dealing with the height of the proposed structure. The building inspector has been asked to address this issue.

When the process and guidance given by the Planning Board is followed, proceedings can go forward very smoothly. You should note that, at the same time the Roma III property hearings were taking place, we held hearings on the 114 Main St. Pharmacy and approved this project in three meetings. And this project required coordination with the Zoning Board Of Appeals.

I would be happy to further discuss some of your views just as soon as the Roma home is under construction.

HANK BETTS

Rockport

Chairman. Rockport Planning Board
