Letter: Why can't fishermen earn a living?

To the editor:

What will it take to have our government help or even allow our fishermen to earn a living?

We have our politicians, Congressman John Tierney, Sen. Elizabeth Warren state Sen. Bruce Tarr, state Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Mayor Carolyn Kirk and now Secertary of State John Kerry, all professing support for our fishermen. One would think that, with all that clout, we could accomplish something that would be feasible for our government and our fishermen.

I would not refuse financial assistance, but I do not believe this is the answer to our problem. What if we put our a petition, had millions of voters sign it, and sent it to the president? Could that work?

All our fishermen are asking is to be able to fish and make a living. Why can’t they?
