Letter: Clancy has invaluable skills for school board

To the editor:

Having served with her on the School Committee for the past four years, I have firsthand knowledge of Kathy Clancy’s commitment, tenacity, and effectiveness in her roles as secretary of the Gloucester School Committee and building and finance chair.

I want the public to know the extent of Kathy’s leadership on the committee.

As legislative liaison, Kathy, in partnership with State Rep. Ferrante, created a path for our superintendent and members to be invited to a collaborative of senior technology heads from Oracle, Google, Microsoft and Apple. As a result of that meeting, Superintendent Safier was offered pro bono professional development opportunities to explore competitive gains in technology.

Kathy took the time to assess the long term academic potential of the Bay State Reading Institute initiative in which our district was investing. She traveled to Malden to witness first-hand their experience with the program.

Kathy has led the subcommittee charged with developing and updating the district website FAQs on Fuller School and West Parish. Her service on the West Parish Building Committee makes her uniquely qualified to keep the public informed.

Kathy is collaborative, committed, attentive to detail, and approachable. Please join me by voting for my school committee colleague, Kathy Clancy www.clancy4schools.org . She is first for education and first on the ballot.

VALERIE GILMAN

Vice chair, Gloucester School Committee
