To the editor:
In the political cartoon in the Gloucester Daily Times of Thursday, July 11, Elliot Spitzer and Anthony Weiner are depicted as rats, leaving a sewer. Both have enormous ears and noses.
While their conduct was improper while in office, the fact that they’re Jewish and that they’re being depicted this way is reminiscent of Hitler’s Germany. This looks like it’s straight out of Nazi era, anti-Jewish propaganda. It’s disturbing to me that Jewish people would be depicted this way in the local Gloucester newspaper in 2013.
It’s apparent that your paper doesn’t agree with the politics of Weiner and Spitzer but, “Eeek, another one…” seems to me to refer to the fact that they’re Jews.
Perhaps your newspaper, its owners and editorial board should apologize to the community.
