---- — To the editor:
On behalf of the United Veterans’ Council and all veterans I want to thank, from the bottom of my heart, everyone who participated in the recent “Operation: Commitment to our Troops” program at Gloucester High School.
I know having this event on the Saturday of Patriot’s Day Weekend caused a lot of schedule switching on many people’s behalf, but it was appreciated.
Due to this support and assistance, quite a number of veterans young and old were able to obtain information and support that they might not have gotten.
Clearly the “One Tent” concept works and our veterans benefit. We may be looking to do this again and I hope that I can count on your support.
The horrific and unprovoked event that took place on Patriot’s Day should remind everyone that freedom is definitely not free, and we must maintain constant vigilance from both here and abroad. Our hearts go out to those innocents who paid the price for a violent and senseless act, but we must renew our resolve to defend our country and its freedoms from those who seek to put us under the yoke of intolerance and fear.
Unlike coming home from Vietnam, it was truly heartening to see that society can differentiate the soldiers from the war. Again, I thank everyone who participated in this event for their support.
