Letter: A victory for a true democracy

To the editor

In his letter (the Times, Wednesday, Nov. 14), R. F. Rooney wrote, “Democracy as we knew it is history.”

Let’s hope so! Democracy as we knew it has been elections and legislation controlled by money, whereby the wealthy got their top tax bracket reduced from over 90 percent under Eisenhower to 35 percent now.

The voters didn’t succumb to the hundreds of millions poured into the recent election to get the taxes on the super-rich reduced even further.

Let’s salute the voters, who demonstrated that our democracy is not yet dead.
