Letter: Grateful for suicide program's support

To the editor:

On Saturday, Nov. 17, people all over the world gathered in observance of National Suicide Survivors Day.

This is an annual event sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and this year, a gathering was held in Gloucester.

People who have experienced this immensely devastating kind of loss came together to watch a DVD with a panel discussion of other survivors. Participants also shared their stories and were able to be in the company of others who also know this stunningly painful territory.

The goal of this event is to provide support, hope, some healing and knowledge that many others have also been where you are. Last week, we made some strides in that direction.

I wish to thank the Cape Ann Community for their generous support which made this event possible.

That includes to all of those at BankGloucester for the use of the Community Room, to Gloucester High School for technical support — and the following merchants who generously shared their wares and supplies: Helmut’s Strudel Shop, Virgilio’s Bakery, Cape Ann Coffees, Shaws, Stop and Shop and Patti Pittore for her help with set-up.
