Letter: rash taints Gloucester's mornings

To the editor:

I sincerely hope the mayor can find time in her busy morning schedule to drive through downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods — perhaps between 6:30 and 7 a.m.

She will find, as I and many others have, the city literally stinks and is strewn with trash along streets and gutters that the collectors don’t seem to want to pick up after missing with their initial attempts at hitting the targeted rear of the truck.

Most, if not all of this stench, stems from the leaking fluids from trash collection trucks that can, without doubt, use a good hosing.

Whatever contract the city has negotiated with the trash company — we’re certainly getting the short, smelly end of the stick.

If I were a tourist, this stench certainly is not the smell I would want hovering above my breakfast plate. Why doesn’t the mayor seem to understand the value of tourism to Gloucester?
