Letter: Disappointed voter blames Fishman

To the editor:

The election is over, and I am suffering from post-election stress syndrome.

My favorite candidates were not elected, and although grossly disappointed, I have to live with the results. However, I am still questioning what happened in our congressional race.

Richard Tisei, the candidate that I strongly supported, was leading in every poll. He was endorsed by each and every North Shore newspaper, except for the Gloucester Daily Times – and including The Boston Globe.

Watching the returns come in on Election Night at what we thought would be his victory party, there was an atmosphere of glee and excitement. The numbers looked good until the results of several Lynn precincts began rolling in heavily in favor of John Tierney. The election suddenly turned around, and it appeared as if Tierney would actually survive!

How ironic that Bill Hudak garnered more votes in Lynn two years ago than Richard did this time.

Of course, Dan Fishman the Libertarian did his part to help re-elect John Tierney.

Fishman got nearly 17,000 votes. Without Fishman in the race, many of these votes might have gone to Tisei and put him over the top. The 4,000-vote gap that Tierney won by was marginal. In all probability, Richard would have come out the victor.

We finally had an opportunity to elect an honest, independent, bipartisan, socially liberal, fiscally conservative candidate in Richard Tisei to represent the voters of District 6.

Unfortunately, the race was hijacked by a third-party candidate who had no chance of winning.

So thank you, Dan Fishman, for helping re-elect our congressman, John Tierney — whose honesty and integrity will always be in question and whose voting pattern will continue to perpetuate the party line and will do nothing to help end the gridlock in Washington.
