Thank you to Shaw's

To the editor:

So many times I rush in to grab a few groceries and never stop to think about the inner goings on at the Shaw’s on Eastern Avenue. But after hearing that some Shaw’s stores are closing, I got to thinking about our Shaw’s and how the store manager has given so much time for fundraisers inside and outside the market. I am so sorry for taking so long to write about my experience with the St. Vincent de Paul Society when we had a bake sale this past summer. Not only did the store give all the proceeds from the barbecue held outside, employees also kept reminding customers that they could donate food to the St. Ann food pantry (St. Vincent de Paul).

I have been in and out of Shaw’s and expressed my concern regarding so many Shaw’s closing. Living in Rockport, where there is no grocery store (yet), I would be lost without the store. Everyone is always friendly and most helpful, and they have a very dedicated manager. I have a feeling the team at Shaw’s is greatly respected by Mr. Gumbleton as he always rolls his sleeves up to help when there is a need and he seems to always be present and visible, ready to give a hand.

So I just want to say that many merchants should follow his example; and say a great big thank you to the great gang at Shaw’s. Also, they seem to know how to please their customers the old-fashioned way — with kindness.
