He held cold compresses to my head to stop the bleeding until the EMTs came.
She stayed by my side from the start, and then shopped for the items I came to buy, refusing payment, simply saying: “Pay it forward.”
These strangers, these Gloucester citizens, took time from their day to come to my aid when I recently fell entering the lobby of an East Gloucester supermarket.
The store representative stayed by my side, observing silently. Finally, he spoke. “Name and address?” he said, “Someone will probably call you in a few days.”
There was no “I’m sorry this happened to you.” Just the facts.
One could guess why a member store of a huge supermarket chain wouldn’t stop to apologize to a customer who fell in their store, whereas ordinary shoppers, our neighbors, don’t hesitate to step up and help.
My heartfelt thanks to her, whose name I do not know, and to him, who said he works for Gloucester Health. You two were the best.
