Letter: Remembering WWII as an economic engine.

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

I am writing in response to the latest letter from Milt Lauenstein (the Times, Thursday, Oct. 18).

Thank you, Milt, for sharing your experience of so many years. I, too, grew up child of the FDR generation. I guess you could say that Harry S. Truman was my president. But I believe that you left out a very important piece of all those years of a stable economy.

World War II provided an economic stability, making many individuals very, very wealthy — including those vested in the aeronautic industry, and the auto moguls of the time, possibly including Gov. Romney’s father. Fathers generally train up their sons to follow in their footsteps.

Profiteering was rampant, from the very rich, to the very poor — kind of like today.
