Letter: he election roles of the 'one percenters'

To The Editor:

Some candidates work to protect the rights of all of us while some concentrate on protecting a special few.

I am astounded by the impoverished or poor who support the champions of the 1 percent.

If the “one percenters” wanted to help you, don’t you think it would have happened already? If Democrats, independents, Libertarians, Republicans, and the TP people in Congress had been willing to work together don’t you think that would have happened already? Many tried; some opposed.

These are the final days to consider how you vote. Look at the parties listed above in reversed order; you will see which group most wants your government to fail and cares least about what happens to you as a consequence.

Assertions deserve to be supported, so read the on-line anonymous comments that follow this and other letters at http://www.gloucestertimes.com/opinion. You will see hecklings, insults, invectives, all sorts of assertions of allegiance to one or more affiliations. I have considered the effects of anger, fear, and hatred for decades. I have yet to find justification for harming someone who disagrees with me. People who differ can find a common ground of understanding to build on.

For the past several years, our whole country has been awash with accusations of guilt by association, misrepresentations of what others say, what they believe, or what they experience emotionally, sexually or racially.

We must ask candidates about issues of governance and hold them accountable for their answers or evasions. The votes we cast determine what influences our lives and our families in the coming decades.

If we do not fulfill our duties and rights as citizens we fail our children and theirs as well. Remember, the final day of voting is Nov. 6.
