Letter: Candidate vows to listen to residents

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — To the editor:

In the final days leading to Tuesday’s election, I want to take this opportunity to say both “thank you” to all who have supported my candidacy for selectman — and “please vote” to all who are still making up their mind.

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to meet and talk to so many of my neighbors and fellow Rockporters and to confirm my belief that we live in a very special community. I am more convinced than ever that I can serve the citizens of Rockport in the way they expect and deserve.

Having the chance to share concerns and ideas for the future, to interact with those who are knowledgeable about specific issues like the environment, business, schools, Long Beach leases or maintaining economic diversity, has enhanced my own perspectives. Running for office is not only a time to communicate opinions, but a time to listen and to learn from the opinions of others.

Voters expressed concerns about how we will fund necessary seawall repairs, help our business and arts community thrive, secure the future of the Rockport schools and provide necessary services for all of our citizens. My background as a Rockport business owner, the parent of school children, and 15 years of managing large project budgets and working with teams for Bose Corp have prepared me to deal with these issues.

Just as importantly, my campaign has prepared me to respect and listen closely to many points of view. This is not something to be lost after the campaign is over. If elected to Selectman, I will continue to listen closely.

Again, thank you to all who have been engaged in this campaign and who are engaged in the issues that determine the future of our community. Please vote on Tuesday, May 7!
