Letter: Flag etiquette and our veterans

To the editor:

While attending the rededication of the “Veterans Cemetery” lot at Beechbrook Cemetery earlier this month, I was amazed to see only the veterans in uniform hand-saluting the flag during the pledge and during the playing of “Taps.”

The U.S. Flag Code was changed in 2008 allowing “honorably discharged” veterans the right to hand-salute the flag, national anthem and “Taps.”

I hope the military groups pass this privilege on to their member. A hand-salute by all vets at a ceremony shows everyone around them the pride of our nation.

God bless America.
