Letter: Whale watches still achieving sightings

To the editor:

I would like to take the opportunity to follow up on Sean Horgan’s story headlined “Fish stocks hurting whale watches” (The Times, Tuesday, Aug. 13.)

Although the article is factual in content, I felt it ended on a dire note to the reader.

The number of American Sand Lance fish is low, but with any natural cycle, it does come back around to the top.

We look forward to that population explosion and the sightings it will bring. But in the meantime, we are still enjoying fin whales, humpbacks, and minke whales. Recently, the Atlantic white sided dolphins have moved into the area — a species we see more commonly in the spring and fall months.

In my 24 years working on board the Privateer VI, I still have been treated to new experiences this season. The ocean always has something to offer the willing viewer.

As my Grandma used to say, “Time on the water is never ill-spent.”
