Giuseppe's spotlights local songwriters

Giuseppe’s restaurant and piano bar has launched a new musical happening with its “Singer Songwriter Shuffle,” a series that continues for the next month.

“Gloucester has an enormous number of local singer/songwriters right here in our midst,” said Joe Thomas, a piano player and co-owner.

The Singer Songwriter Shuffle features 21 Cape Ann and North Shore musicians. Each week, seven musicians will perform their own music around the grand piano for 20 minutes each, from 7 to 10 p.m.

“Most of the musicians in the lineup perform during our Sunday acoustic evenings,” said Thomas, “and we noticed that although many weave their originals in with their cover sets, we really want to bring the focus back to their own songs, in one place, at one time.”

The musicians who are taking part are: Inge Berge, Brian O’Connor, Satch Kerans, Annette Dion, Jon Waterman, Bradley Royds, Marina Evans, Will Hunt, Dylan Estes, Allen Estes, Steve Caraway, Brian King, Kenny Cleveland, TMax, Christine Baze, Qwill, Jake Pardee, Ann Marie Shimanoski, Andy Pratt, Randy Black and Joe Wilkins.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Estes, who commended the owners’ efforts to nurture local talent. “It’s very informal and the place has a nice musical vibe.”

Gloucester’s Brian King, a singer-songwriter for the group “What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?,” also applauded the efforts to focus on original music.

“There aren’t many venues on the North Shore that really showcase singer-songwriters performing original music. It’s fantastic that Giuseppe’s is highlighting what the North Shore has to offer. It’s really an honor to be among so many ferociously talented performers,” said King.

The weekly schedule is posted on the website at:

Giuseppe’s Ristorante and Piano Bar is at 2 Main St. in Gloucester in the Blackburn building.
