Sunday morning live: Seaward Inn launching music series on Mother's Day

Mother's Day will kick off the Sunday Morning Live series at a seaside inn in Rockport that has gathered an array of New England musicians to perform over the next five months.

"These musicians can showcase their music in a yesteryear setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean," said Rose Marie Leal of the Seaward Inn on Marmion Way.

"Each concert has an interesting story," she added, "from an 'American Idol' finalist to two Berklee College full-scholarship recipients, one from Norway, the other from Brazil."

The Mother's Day Brunch features Lori Diamond and Fred Abatelli, who perform New Age and pop music.

The following week, May 16, features Jesse McCullagh, a 2008 'American Idol' Finalist.

Other featured performers include the 2009 Winner of the David Foster Singing Contest and the fiddle and guitar duo, The Whiskey Boys, who are recent graduates of Berklee and just getting started with their music.

Most of these musicians are singer and songwriters who have won major awards for their craft and many are now on tour. The live music takes place every Sunday Morning during a breakfast buffet. There is no cover charge.

The offerings will be diverse. Other artists to perform are Stuart Ferguson who placed second in the 2009 Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and received the audience appreciation award at the Boston Folk Festival, Owen Kennedy who was the 2008 Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Contest winner, and the a capella group Talk to the Hand, a woman's quartet, which is back by popular demand.

Gordon Michaels, the 2009 Boston Winner of the David Foster Singing Contest, has performed in Gloucester on a few occasions in recent years. He will perform at the Seaward Inn on Father's Day, when he will sings jazz, rhythm and blues and show tunes.

Another group, Gumbo Diablo, which performs a mix of zydeco and New Orleans rhythm and blues, has toned down its performance so it could introduce its sound to a Sunday morning clientele.

The finale performance on Sept. 26 features Lori Diamond and Friends.
