Weird science: Children learn about magnets, electricity

Gloucester Daily Times

---- — Pupils at West Parish Elementary School in Gloucester recently participated in some hands-on science experiments.

Representatives from Boston’s Museum of Science presented a visiting program, “Observing Electricity and Magnets,” for kindergartners through second-graders at the school.

Through a series of demonstrations, the children examined the properties of electricity and magnetism and learned how the two are related. Some of the children volunteered to hold magnets so powerful that their like poles could not be pushed together and tested a variety of metals for magnetism. They even learned how electricity is similar to, and can even create, magnetism.

The museum program toured the other Gloucester elementary schools.
