Bourbon Balls: No baking required

We all love to make homemade cookies for the holidays, but we don’t all have unlimited time for baking. Try these no-bake Kentucky Bourbon Balls as part of your Christmas cookie collection or as a homemade food gift. These prove that festive cookie creating doesn’t have to be difficult to be delicious.

Culled from Mystery Chef’s family archives, these no-bake cookies contain alcohol. Since the alcohol does not cook off in this recipe, be sure to let everyone know.

You also don’t have to be from Kentucky to enjoy these bourbon balls, but lovers of good bourbon will enjoy these treats even more. Some have said that it’s especially important to buy high quality bourbon (Maker’s Mark is a good one), since sipping away while making these cookies is half the fun.

These easy-to-make cookies have a lovely, chewy consistency with a bourbon and vanilla flavor. Maker’s Mark bourbon, in particular, has a particular sweet flavor that enhances this recipe.

Not to be confused with the notorious fruitcake, but like the fruitcake these bourbon bites also have another special feature — they keep for quite a while in an air-tight container, such as a cookie tin. This makes them ideal for shipping. If you have a relative far away or overseas, or know anyone who would appreciate a bite of cheer, this recipe is for you.
