Correction

The Gloucester Daily Times aims to be accurate. If you are aware of a factual error in a story, please call Times Editor Ray Lamont at 978-283-7000 x3438.

There are two corrections to the article associated with the video recipe for Cheese Blintzes published in Taste of the Times in the paper and online Dec. 8. The article mentioned that Hanukkah “celebrates the miracle of a short supply of lamp oil lasting for eight days, long enough for second century Jews to fight and regain their Holy Temple in Jerusalem.” This is inaccurate as the miracle of the oil was written some four centuries after the war between the Maccabees and the ancient Greek Syrians, meaning, the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after the war was over occurred 400 years before the miracle of the oil happened. The article also reference the consumption of dairy during Hanukkah festivities and this too is inaccurate. The consumption of cheese blintz and dairy foods is associated with the holiday Shavuot, which is celebrated in the late spring. Thank you to Rabbi Ira Korinow from Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill for his assistance with our corrections.
