Fly Amero, Jon Butcher in acoustic show Saturday

Fly Amero and Jon Butcher will perform in concert “Together Live” at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. Both Amero and Butcher will be introducing new material from upcoming solo CDs.

The two guitarists became fast friends as a natural chemistry developed between the Grammy-nominated Butcher and Cape Ann’s Amero.

They will be joined on stage for the evening of acoustic music by Fabio Pirozzolo, from Terracina, Italy, who started his career as a folk percussionist. A summa cum laude Berklee College of Music graduate, he performs in all genres of music from jazz to rock.

Butcher, who has a busy recording and touring career, enjoys all music Americana, including blues, jazz, Dixieland, folk, swing, Cajun, and more. Amero, a certified gold recording artist and journeyman, tours as a member of the classic American pop group Orleans. He draws from a lifetime of rootsy Americana, folk, blues and jazz influences.

Both Amero and Butcher, lifelong musicians and songwriters, continuously work on new music.

“This concert is all acoustic because of the venue,” said Butcher. “It’s the perfect place to stage a show where, instead of electric guitar, you have an opportunity to story-tell and give a shape and substance to the songs.”

He said the biggest challenge for the pair was how to pare down several decades of songwriting into a single evening of music.

“This has been a pleasant challenge,” Butcher said. “And to work with such a gifted singer-songwriter is particularly sweet for me and a wonderful opportunity to engage with one of the most fantastic musicians I have had the pleasure to know.”

Amero described the program as diverse.

“My material isn’t even similar to itself. For example, I have some ragtime blues and some that are soul songs. I’m going from Leon Redbone to Wilson Pickett,” he said. “Jon does a lot of different songs, including wonderful Americana with some songs even about American history.”
