Return of the Lobstah Crackah

Extravaganza is adaptation of holiday classic 'The Nutcracker'

The Lobstah Crackah — a Cape Ann adaptation of the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” — returns to the stage beginning tonight at the Lester Wass American Legion post hall in Gloucester.

The multi-generational cast of locals will perform the original work, produced by Gloucester’s Henry Allen.

The show tells the tale of the mysterious Uncle Drawsumbuttah, who arrives at the mayor’s holiday party bearing gifts for all — including a giant LobstahCrackah for his sassy niece named Clarafied.

The story evolves from this point in this homespun holiday extravaganza, which includes many other memorable scenes including “Dancing Scrod” and other characters.

Show times are tonight through Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The Legion hall is located at 8 Washington St., at the Joan of Arc statue.

The suggested donation is $20, and seniors/veterans/students $15, but no one will be turned away, Allen said.
