Globetrotting to the beat

Students, faculty and staff at East Gloucester Elementary School virtually traveled across the globe on Friday morning along with the internationally acclaimed Bamidele Dancers & Drummers from West Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean.

The Bamidele Dancers & Drummers are art educators, composers, musicians, dancers and choreographers from Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean who are dedicated to the preservation of African- and African-rooted cultures through dance, music and song.

Members of the troupe, who have expertise in African, Caribbean and Brazilian cultures, taught the children some sign language, words, and how drum before inviting some to perform on stage with them.

Bamidele is part of Young Audiences of Massachusetts and they travel and perform all over the world.

This enrichment event was hosted by the East Gloucester Elementary School PTO, and partially funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
