---- — More than 100 works of art will be showcased for the first time Saturday when the North Shore Arts Association holds its annual benefit art auction.
This fund-raising event, “A Taste for Art,” is open to the public, and features a few options for those attending.
Featured are paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel, as well as graphics and a bronze sculpture.
A lobster roll and champagne preview will begin at 3:30 p.m., featuring a “buy it now” option in which someone can purchase the artwork for the asking price. That ticket is priced at $75, and includes the entire evening.
The other option, priced at $50, allows the holder the chance to begin at 5:30 p.m.. It allows guests to savor a complimentary food tasting from Cape Ann and North Shore restaurants while previewing the art. There is an open bar, including a selection of wines.
The auction starts at 7 p.m., and organizers noted that one new feature this year is air-conditioning in the gallery, located on Pirates Lane in East Gloucester.
Ken Knowles, an artist and president of the North Shore Arts Association, said he wants everyone to know that this is an open event and everyone is invited to see what an art auction is like, even if they have never attended one before.
“It’s going to be a party with music and food from some of the best restaurants in the area,” he said. “And the auction will feature the best artists in New England.”
Auctioneer John Archer will open the bidding for 53 works by North Shore Arts Association artists at 7 p.m.
At the same time, attendees can bid on 53 works in the silent auction as well. A catalog of all of the art offered and the sponsors will be available the night of the auction. For more information and tickets, call 978-283-1857 or visit www.nsarts.org.
