Adults study expressionism at cultural center

---- — Members of a group of adults take paintbrushes dipped in black and put them to canvas. They draw circles, squiggles, changing the thickness or lightness of stroke, the depth of color representing their emotions.

Others choose more color, spreading brightness in a brush’s wake.

They are students taking part in a class on expressionist painting held at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center.

The painters explored working in and out of lines, using shape, color and composition to connect to the expression of their own style, meaning and intuition, rather than physical reality.

The six-week course, which started Feb. 5, is taught by Yhanna Coffin.
