Cruise, other events help elders stay at home

SeniorCare’s fourth annual Sunset Boat Cruise went off without a hitch despite some early concerns about bad weather.

The Hurricane II left Rose’s Wharf for a leisurely spin around the harbor with guests who support SeniorCare’s mission of allowing older and disabled people to live independently at home. Glassy seas and a lovely sunset made for a relaxing trip, but for those inclined to make merry, Leo’s Classic Hits provided the music.

This year’s cruise was underwritten by premier sponsor Associated Home Care. Koozies for each guest, to help keep their drinks cold, were sponsored by ABC Home Healthcare Professionals and Aberdeen Home Care Inc. Refreshments were sponsored by Sidekim Foods, which is also the local vendor for SeniorCare’s Meals on Wheels program.

Other corporate sponsors of the cruise were Action Inc., Bayada Home Health Care, Brightview Danvers, Bring Care Home, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Caregiver Homes, CleanPro, Elder Service Plan of the North Shore, Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, First Ipswich Bank, Glovsky & Glovsky, Granite Savings Bank, Harborlight Community Partners, Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, North Shore Elder Services, Right at Home, Rockport National Bank, Spectrum Adult Day Health Program, Bernard M. SeniorCare is thankful that so many corporate citizens contribute to the welfare of their neighbors who need community-based services. If such services were not available, many these people might face premature institutional care due to their physical frailties. Losing them from their neighborhoods would significantly impact their families and the rest of the community.

Elders are especially important to the development of our younger generations, and it’s much more valuable to have them nearby than to have them be placed in nursing homes by the availability of beds vs. how close their family lives. Being cared for at home is usually their first choice, and it is events such as the Boat Cruise, the Valentine Breakfast, the Lobsta Land breakfast, and other events that generate needed money to help them make the choice about where to receive care.
