Angie Miller parade and concert set for tomorrow

BEVERLY — The next time you see Angie Miller, she could be riding in a convertible down Cabot Street.

Miller is scheduled to take part in a parade through the downtown and sing in a concert at the high school tomorrow as the city welcomes home the “American Idol” contestant.

The parade and concert have been scheduled as part of the “hometown visits” filmed by Fox for each of the final three contestants.

“It’s a great chance to show off our fair city,” Mayor Bill Scanlon said.

The parade is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at City Hall. It will include Miller, most likely riding in a convertible, followed by members of her family in a second car, Scanlon said.

The parade will also include the Beverly High School marching band and color guard. It will head up Cabot Street and turn right onto Herrick Street to the high school.

Miller will then perform on an outdoor stage set up at the school. The concert is scheduled to go from 4 to 5:30 p.m. People will watch the concert from the playing fields, with no seating available.

Officials had considered holding the concert at Hurd Stadium but decided it might not be big enough to hold all of the people who might attend.

“We can’t estimate how big the crowd’s going to be,” Scanlon said. “That’s the reason we decided against Hurd Stadium. There’s more room at the high school.”

Portable toilets will be set up at the school. There will also be a strong police presence, Scanlon said. No alcohol will be allowed.

Officials are encouraging people who drive to use the eight public parking lots in the downtown area, which will be available free of charge, then walk to the high school. Parking at Beverly High School will be “extremely limited,” officials said, with spaces being used by equipment for event staging, public safety and the media.

People coming from out of town are urged to take the train.
